'30 minutes of prayerful serenity helps to get everything in perspective'
You can access the liturgy we use here:
1. Common Worship Daily Prayer – clicking on the image below will lead you to a page where near the bottom you’ll find something that looks like this:
And if you click on the title (the date will change each day) it will bring you to all the liturgy we are using for Morning Prayer. You will also see below it Prayer During the Day, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer.
3. Smartphone Apps from the Church of England
The Church of England has a number of Apps available for Smart Phones and IPads: their free ones include Time to Pray and Daily Prayer . Time to Pray has Prayer during the Day and Night Prayer, Daily Prayer has the liturgy we use in Morning Prayer. Time to Pray is also now available as a podcast.
4. PrayerMate – This smartphone app is useful for building your own prayer pattern but also enables you to sign up to prayer diaries from a large range of Christian organisations, including the London Diocesan Cycle of Prayer.
5.Pray As You Go – this wonderful resource is available in desktop, smartphone and IPad versions and provides a daily short (around 10 minutes) Ignatian-style meditation with music and scripture. They work in collaboration with Sacred Space who also have a multi-platform service. They offer words on the screen which is good for those who find some music distracting.
There are other useful resources such as the Bible App which has a great range of different translations including the King James, and the Bible In One Year which as well as a smartphone app has the option of receiving a daily email, and has audio commentary available. The 24/7 prayer organisation has a range of suggestions to help you pray, and watching the videos in the Prayer Course is a great place to start if you need encouragement. And of course you are welcome to borrow a copy of the Book of Common Prayer from church if you don’t have one at home.
But whatever you decide to do, keep praying. Here are some inspirational verses from the bible:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
Pray without ceasing,
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.
And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.”
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.
Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!
Holy Trinity Prayer
Holy Trinity, in whose name we worship,
give us such love, that
alone and together, today and every day,
we may reverence the Father,
radiate the presence of the Son,
and live in the power of the Holy Spirit.
